Training Equips Jordanian Museum Professionals with New Skills in Artifact Handling
On September 14 and
15, 2020, the USAID Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities
Project held an Artifact Handling Workshop in Madaba, in partnership with the
Madaba Regional Archaeological Museum Project. The workshop was conducted as
part of the project’s efforts to build the capacities of Jordanian
professionals in the fields of cultural heritage management and tourism, in
order to support the sustainability and self-sufficiency of these
interconnected sectors. The training was led by Dr. Fatima Marii, with sessions
conducted by additional experts hailing from both Jordan and the United States.
Topics included transporting, packing, and otherwise handling a variety of
artifacts in different contexts, and participants had the chance to gain
practical, hands-on experience during the workshop. A total of 11 museum
professionals from the Department of Antiquities, including six women,
participated and received certificates for their new knowledge and improved
capacities
