In July and August the USAID Sustainable Cultural Heritage
Through Engagement of Local Communities Project (SCHEP) held two training
sessions on health and safety practices for its partners and other community
members in Ghawr as Safi and Busayra. A
total of 41 people participated in these courses, which were implemented in
partnership with Ammon Applied University College and the Talal Abu Ghazaleh
Academy, respectively. Participants represented SCHEP’s local partner MSEs,
local branches of the Department of Antiquities and Ministry of Tourism and
Antiquities, the Ghawr as Safi and Busayra Municipalities, and other local
organizations. As Jordan considers reopening to limited international tourism
in coming months, these courses will help the local community prepare to
welcome tourists from inside and outside of Jordan, using the highest level of
safety measures to protect themselves and others.
