The USAID Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities Project (SCHEP) released its latest success story video this month, highlighting the project’s work with Abdeljawad Osheibat of Ghawr as Safi to establish and develop a local tourism enterprise in his hometown. SCHEP has worked with the Jordan Southern Ghawr Company since 2017, helping to establish the company and providing technical and material support for it to develop into a flourishing business that gives back to the local community. Today, the company offers a wide variety of touristic experiences for visitors from throughout Jordan and the world to discover the southern Jordan Valley area, and has created 31 jobs to date for local men and women in an area where unemployment rates are high and sources of income are hard to come by.
