USAID SCHEP and ACOR are proud to be featured in “Heritage and The Sustainable Development Goals: Policy Guidance for Heritage and Development Actors,” a new publication from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). The aim of this document is to illustrate the many ways in which heritage can address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all."

As a project committed to gender equity in the cultural heritage sector, USAID SCHEP is highlighted as a case study for SDG 5, “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” As stated on page 48 of this policy guidance, “By actively encouraging the participation of women from different backgrounds in all levels of its programming, SCHEP continuously works to further women’s engagement in the cultural heritage sector at every level, to enable women’s participation and advancement in the workforce, and to enhance their leadership in the sector.”

Finally, SCHEP was also pleased to provide a photo of Aqelah Jmeidi and Wajd Al Nawafleh of the SCHEP-supported ACOR Temple of the Winged Lions project in Petra for the cover of this important document

SCHEP and ACOR would like to thank the ICOMOS Sustainable Development Goals Working Group for their collaboration and for their sustained efforts to highlight the important connections between heritage and sustainability.
