SCHEP is proud to see one of our Site Stewards, Anas Alyan, featured on the USAID Jordan Instagram page. Anas has been working with SCHEP at Bayt Ras since 2017, assisting in efforts to study, preserve and protect the painted Roman tomb discovered in the area in 2016.
From @USAID Jordan:
‘“USAID will work on transforming the site of Bait Ras Archaeological Cave into a visitors’ center. After that, they will develop a full tourist map and route of the Bait Ras village, which includes many other famous historical sites, such as the Roman Theatre, the Roman Market and the Street of Columns that now need a lot of restoration work due to weather conditions." – Anas Alyan, a site steward at Bait Ras.
Together with the local community, USAID is bringing to light little-known touristic sites, and empowering surrounding residents to preserve them, maintain them and promote them, instilling a sense of self-reliance and pride in each and every individual involved.’
